Celebrates 50 years at Oberer's Flowers

        In today's day and age where people jump from job to job it is a rarity to find a man who has remained with the same company for his entire career. Jerry Wahl has done just that. This June Jerry marks fifty years of employment with Oberer's Flowers.

      All of Jerry's friends and co-workers thank him for his dedication, loyalty and integrity he has shown over the past fifty years!

 

Jerry's Story           

     Not many are aware this unassuming modest man holds a world record, not in track and field or racing, but in casket spray making. Over the years Jerry has made more casket sprays (the family floral piece that sits on top of the casket at funerals) than any other human on earth.  Not only do we believe he holds the record, we think he holds it by a long shot.

   While still in high school Jerry started his employment at Oberer's June 1st 1956 working in the greenhouses.  His responsibilities soon were expanded to being a delivery man and eventually dispatcher. He also managed the plant department at Oberer's, but he is best known for the many years he has spent being the designer of casket sprays. Casket sprays are the family floral tribute that sit on top of the casket you see at visitations and funerals.  On a daily average Jerry creates between 10 and 20 of these tributes, each one different.

   Day after day, year after year, Jerry designs these most personal floral tributes meeting each family's request for one of their last gestures of love and respect and paying tribute to their loved one's life. Whether it was the passing of a grandmother, a father, a wife, or the tragic loss of a child, Jerry has been faithfully there in the background making sure his part has been done with detail to perfection. So day after day and  without fanfare, Jerry touches the lives of people at their time of most distress, and at one point over the years, indirectly, he has touched nearly every life in the Miami Valley.

    And now marking his 50 years at Oberer's it is time for us to say thanks to Jerry.
